His Holiness Jigdal Dagchen Sakya is the head of the Sakya tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, one of the four main lineages
of Buddhism in Tibet. H.H. Dagchen Rinpoche was born into the Khön family, the principle lineage holders of the Sakya tradition.
As one of the highest lamas in Tibet, he is one of the few lamas to have completed many years of formal scholarly and meditative
training in Tibet itself, receiving teachings and instruction from his father H.H. Trichen Ngawang Thutop Wangchuk.
Although Rinpoche is the leader of the Sakya lineage, he has also studied extensively with the great Rime teachers Jamyang
Khyentse Chokyi Lodro and H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and therefore He is considered non-sectarian in approach, having knowledge
of all the great Tibetan Buddhist traditions.
Rinpoche came to the United States in 1960, and remained in Seattle, seeing there was a need to make the teachings accessible
to westerners. He resides in Seattle where he is principle guru of the Sakya Monastery of Tibetan Buddhism. Rinpoche also
gives teachings in Nepal, Tibet, Northern India, Asia, and in Europe.
Her Eminence Jamyang D. Sakya ws born in Kham, Eastern Tibet. Since she was the niece of one of the most highly realized
Sakya masters of the twentieth century, H.E. Deshung Rinpoche III, her training in Buddhist practice began at an early age.
When she married Dagchen Sakya, she became Sakya Dagmo Kusho (Reverend Holy Mother) of the Sakya Khon family. Dagmo Kusho
has received extensive teachings and empowerment from many revered lamas throughout her lifetime.
